Measuring Instructions for Your Aluminum Blinds
If you're thinking about purchasing aluminum blinds from Blindster, it's important that you provide us with correct measurements of your windows before you place your order.
INSIDE MOUNT BLINDS
Inside mount blinds fit inside the window frame and provide a sleek, clean, and built-in look that preserves the appearance of woodwork and molding.
If you plan on mounting your blinds inside your window frames, keep the following tips in mind:
- Shade is installed directly inside window frame.
- Provides a clean, streamlined, and built-in look for the shade.
- Leaves all attractive woodwork exposed and retains natural charm of window.
- Requires a minimum depth of 1 3/8" for flush inside mount and 1/2" for standard inside mount.
- Install as outside mount if window frame isn't deep enough.
Measuring Inside Mount Blinds
To get an accurate measurement of your windows before placing an order for inside mount blinds, follow these instructions:
- Measure the inside width of the window frame in three separate locationsâat the top, middle, and bottom. Then, write down the smallest of these three measurements, as it will be the width you use when you place your order. When we receive your order, we will make the necessary deductions to ensure a proper fit.

- Measure the inside height of the window frame in three separate locations left side, middle, and right side. Write down the largest of these measurements and use it when ordering your shade from Blindster.

OUTSIDE MOUNT BLINDS
Outside mount blinds are perfect for windows that are too shallow to support the installation of inside mount blinds. They can be mounted to the wall, ceiling, or frame/molding around the window and are often used to make windows appear larger.
Here are a few important facts to know about outside mount blinds:
- Best option is the window frame isn't deep enough to support inside mount.
- Allows for installation on wall, ceiling, or molding surface surrounding window.
- Can make windows appear larger or hide unattractive windows and doors.
- Doesn't have a minimum depth requirement for installation.
- Flat surface requirements on wall, ceiling, or window frame: 1 1/2" (1" blinds), 2 1/2" (2" & 2 1/2" blinds)
Measuring Outside Mount Blinds
Follow these instructions to get an accurate measurement of your outside mount blinds:
- Measure across the window and the entire width of the area you wish to cover with the shade. If space allows, we recommend adding a total of 2" - 3" to your initial measurement to reduce light seepage and increase the privacy your shade provides. Use this number when placing your order. Note that the valance will be approximately 3/4" wider than the shade.

- Measure the height of the window and the area you wish to cover with the shade. This number will be your ordering height. Note that you will need 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" of flat space on your mounting surface for mounting brackets. Once you place your order, the factory will manufacture your shade, including the headrail, to fit the exact height and width noted when the order was placed. To allow ample room to mount your shade above the window frame, add 3" - 4" to your height measurement when you place your order.
